You don't have to like the record, but this is a twee criticism. It's like saying "all Glenn Gould plays on the Goldberg Variations is a Steinway grand, and he doesn't even bother to detune the strings."

As a synth musician I find that while I labor mightily over some patches to get a distinctive sound for a song, as I'm filling it out, I cycle through presets looking for stuff. Sometimes a preset is just the ticket. -- [Kent Williams/CADSI/2651 Crosspark Rd/Coralville IA 52241] kent.williams@cadsi.com

Damn right...exactly my sentiments... if the sound is good..the sound is good... If I programmed it myself...nice.. but I don't have to do good work if it's been done already do I ? Love, AA Allert Aalders - Big Time Concepts - allert@knoware.nl - allert@riv.nl why not check http://www.riv.nl/yuliana - a Bio Boostin' Music server shape on IRC - mostly on #digistad

Precisely - the art of preset-tweaking is greatly underrated, but if you have to program a synth from the front panel 'cos you can't afford/find an editor it's often the best (only!) way. As for the claim that Spanners has got JD all over it - isn't this the same as saying that Orbital tracks are covered in 909 or Plastikman tracks are all BassLine <g> Just my $0.02 of course. And while we're on the subject of 909s, has anyone outside the US managed to d/l the 909 samples off Hyperreal? Every time I try to ftp them, I get about 50KB worth at a rate of about 2KB/min and then the connection times out. This has happened about five times now (at varying times of day, from midday to 8pm BST); is it possible? -- Cheers __ | /\ |\ | \/ \/ | \|
