Bochum Welt is one Gianluigi Di Costanzo (anyone?) and instantly ranked as one of the best records Rephlex has released to date. The highlight for me is "CH Riot On Proxima Centauri" - a brilliant electro inspired idm acid track. The other tracks follow the same delicious recipe with the exception of the Kinesthesia remix of "Phlughaven Alphard" which is a beatless tonal ambient track. Don't you dare miss this one. ::: Future Sound of London : Far-Out Son Of Lung EP (Astralwerks) Originally released as a white label, this EP fully titled "Far-Out Son of Lung and the Ramblings of a Madman" has been rereleased domestically by Astralwerks. With the recent reissue and repackaging of the limited edition album ISDN, FSOL have come under considerable fire since the reissue features two new tracks, both of which are also on this EP, along with two others tracks also from ISDN, the title track "Far-Out Son of Lung.." and "Smokin Japanese Babe." That said, both of the two new tracks fit perfectly onto the excellent ISDN and contain much of the same sounds we have previously heard. "Snake Hips" is another slow funky track with some fierce guitar sounds and at times reminds me of a more organic Wagon Christ. "Amoeba" has a crunchier feel to it with some booming percussion and sustained ethereal vocals. A good domestic pricetag makes it worth the buy, but I wish FSOL would play fair on these reissues. ::: Various : Throne of Drones (Sombient/Asphodel 0952) The first part of a trilogy of drone compilations to be released on the Sombient label. Throne of Drones is an excellent example of what has been termed Isolationism, the dark side of ambient music. Featuring a variety of artists from Robert Rich and Steve Roach to Biosphere, the sound is minimalistic and for the mainpart consists of sustained haunting drones that paint a picture of desolate spaces and emptyness. Sitting in my basement listening to this on headphones last night was quite a disturbing experience. All the tracks are previously unreleased with the exception of the Biosphere track. :: Alan M. I'm sorry... I'm new to IDM and I missed the review of the above Rephlex title. I checked the IDM archives, but couldn't find it. I've liked most of what Replex has put out, so I don't what to miss anything good. How is it? Also, are the Future Sound of London : Far-Out Son Of Lung EP tracks differerent then what's on ISDN? Is it worth buying it for the two tracks that are not on IDSN? And, is there anyone in the UK that has their taped shows and is willing to make copies? They would be severely appreciated!!! Thanks.
