I was definitely impressed with the Woob album. Can anyone give me any more info on Em:t stuff, and possibly a review of the Qubism album when it comes out? OnNow: Love and Rockets _Hot_Trip_to_Heaven_ (I've never listened to L&R in my life before, but this is pretty cool. However, they nicked the beat from "Supernova at the end of the universe/Back side of the Moon"...) --Jeff

There's a nice article about the label (Time) in a recent XLR8R, I have the paper one in front of me, but it says that it's available via ftp from hyperreal.com in /zines/xlr8r Hope thats of some help. _D

I've heard the LP (don't have a copy on hand so I can't give a complete review), and it's in the same meandering vein as Woob, but with a bubbly analogue feel to it. Very well-made, very "musical." On Now:Wheel of Fortune, with faint echoes of Dylan from the other room. (sorry, not very ambient, innit?) Peace, ::Matthew J. The Woob album is one of the best ambient albums this year, bar none. I felt like I was listening to "Chill Out" for the first time. I filed Woob right next to my laser-worn copy of "Through the Round Window"

For that matter, what was T:ME? I only saw it on the DR version of Emigre, but they sure had some cool designs. Same people?

T:me, or Time, are an excellent house label out of England. The design for one of their compilations, T:me 1010, appeared in the DR issue of Emigre... An offshoot of T:me, called em:it, is "sort of" an ambient label. It's more about listening music than full-on chill-outery, so if you're looking for an analogue bubblebath, you're unlikely to find one. Em:t could more accurately be described as an experimental label. I've been told that there are some incredible projects in the works at Em:t, so keep an eye out... And I love the cover artwork. By DR you mean Designers Republic, right? I have been fond of them since I first became aware of them around 89/90 when I realised all this excellent artwork for WARP, Network, The Orb etc. was from the same people. Then I found they go back further than that (eg KRUSH - "House Arrest"). They have subsequently been copied by such as "wink" (is it?) but not to the same standard (imho). But any way, what exactly is this "DR issue of Emigre" you are talking about? - do we have a collection of DR art somewhere in print? J ^ NEW. Signature lite (TM). Not interesting to look at but better for the net.

Here's a hint for everyone on the list. If two other people on the list have referred to something quite casually, as if it's common knowledge, it's just might be possible that it's been discussed on the list before. Even if you've been on the list from day one, it could be that you missed the discussion. The IDM archives are available at hyperreal.com for a reason (a little bird tells me that Brad Shelton gave Emigre's address and phone number in a message about the DR issue in March of this year). A recent issue of Emigre magazine, a US design rag, was dedicated entirely to the Designers Republic. It features an extensive interview, a "designography" of sorts, DR-designed back and front covers, and a DR-designed calendar, more or less unintelligible. All very good and worth getting. However, I have a feeling it will be rather hard to find, as it sold out shortly after it came out, and I'm sure plenty are scrambling to find the back issues... I don't have the magazine in front of me, so could someone contribute an address/phone number for the Emigre crew? Peace, ::Matthew J. I think I did this for the IDM Times way back when. scope the archives. anyway, it's good, but not as good as the first one. sounds like a lot of leftovers with one or two real gems. their leftovers are pretty good though. Jon Drukman jsd@cyborganic.com

Really? local shops have it here (Austin TX) .. and I can't imagine why DoVE wouldn't still sell it ( I don't have DoVE's address handy, but I'd guess someone else could scape it up) .. ZZO (who are also listed on the cover) are at PO Box 100561, D-8560 Lauf/Germany Great record... one of my all time favorites

Well, here at the local Tower they've had a copy of "Through the Round Window" sitting around for ages..I think it's still being manufactured under license by Hyperium in Germany, but I could be wrong on that one. BTW, for the person who wanted to know what Three of Swans sounds like, I would agree with the other opinion expressed a few days ago--it's not as good as "Through the Round Window". The style is sort of similar but it isn't as melodic/Jean-Michel Jarre-y as TTRW. I still like it, though. Ashok adivakaran@worldbank.org
