OK, an annoying information-free post: Richard H Kirk has been mentioned a lot recently but I have none of his stuff (apart from the track on TEX2). What would people recommend as his best album? There seem to be quite a few, under various names. And while I'm here, anyone heard the Orb's Oxbow Lakes single? What are the mixes like? - is there enough variety in there to make it worth buying? The CD single contains 5 mixes- the LP version, a Guy Called Geral putting out a junglistic version, a funky version by someone else, and a 4/4 vaguely technoish remix by Carl Craig. Finally theres a string arrangement by "Instrumental" which is like a piece of "classical" string quartet music. So loads of variety, though I get the feeling that the Orb's identity is being lost here. This EP seems to have doubled in one fell swoop the number of outside remixers who have accessed Orb tracks (maybe not quite that bad but I can only think of Oakey's Perpetual Dawn, Mad Professor's Towers and DeWulf's Blue Room.) btw The 4 remixes are spread across 2 12inchers - not such good value as the CD by any means, J ^ James Skilton aka Steady J - steady-j@firefox.co.uk

Question....how much does Oxbow cost in the UK. It's sure to be almost $20 here in Canada. (Or is the Orb still distributed by ATTIC here in Canada.) jay ______________________________________________________________________________ Jason W. Like any UK single the price will be around PSterling 4, but as is frequently the case for singles, initial copies are cheaper (2.49 in my local shop in this case) due to reps giving them to stores to try and encourage a high chart placing. The CD represents better value than the 12"s as it has all 4 remixes, which are split in 2 pairs on the vinyl copies. So does anyone know who no distributes the Orb in the great white north? (Not Finland...Canada). Karl V. mentioned that "Attic" is no longer the distributer. jay ______________________________________________________________________________ Jason W. It'll probably be at least that much here in canada as attic no longer carries the orb distribution. karl

I listened to both 12"s in the shop the other day and the only redeeming mix IMHO was the A Guy Called Gerald mix. Okay, it wasn't just redeeming, it was actually pretty amazing. However, the other three mixes (Sabres, Carl Craig, Instrumental) were quite sleep-inducing. - Matthew "I grew up thinking that techno music is actually something that you can't imagine. That is techno at its best. If you hear something that you'd never expect to hear - that's techno. If you hear something that kind of sounds like you've heard it before, then it's not techno." - Jeff Mills
