as i said before, i still don't know whether i like that release. true, it doesn't jump at you like some of his e.p.s, which are more funky / kicking / dancy, or more of the kind you aptly describe. i quite do like that long track that fills the b-side (which i hope is the one you consider to be the beauty), but i do think the other tracks of this lp also convey a specific atmosphere. its monotony does have this depressed, misanthropic, musty air that gives our detroit animal its specifically viennese outfit. less grimy, more abstract, but still in line. (i love vienna.) of course, this is not exactly party or sunday afternoon music. like most viennese stuff, it takes some time to get into it (which is why i hate the fact that they seperated the track grooves on the vinyl - if in doubt, better get this on cd). give it a few more listens, maybe after a break. if you don't like the ironic, cynical humour of the pulpy booklet (imo it matches the atmospheric idea very well - plus the small jokes like that "first customer" who has already appeared on the b-side label of pulsinger's dogmatic sequences ii), get a copy of anything by elfriede jelinek - "the piano player" is translated, for example. should give you the picture to the soundtrack. so in short, i don't know yet whether this record will sink in after some time, but i think it's rather a "cheap" record than a cheap record, if you get me. cheers, p. on after drax' "tales from the mental plane": porno.
