I picked up a handful of new or newer releases this weekend and I thought I'd give my opinion on 'em. First off: a familiar name, Sabres of Paradise and their remix disc aptly titled "Versus." Featuring 6 mixes: 2 by Depth Charge, and on by LFO, Chemical Brothers (Dust Brothers), Nigthmares On Wax and In The Nursery, perspectively. This release just tinkers with the potent formula laid down by the original "Haunted Dancehall" LP. The mixes are all cool but relatively straight forward. No "Re-constructions or de-constructions here. The In The Nursery mix puts the track "Haunted Dancehall" through the stringed-quartet treatment but that's as crazy as it gets. My favorite mix is the Nightmares On Wax mix of "Bubble & Slide." They add a funky bass line that Bootsy Collins would be proud of! All said, a 6/10. Oops, I ran out of time. More reviews later today on Oval's "Systemisch" (Mille Plateau), the Serenity Dub 1.1 & 2.1 compilations, Alec Empire's "Generation Star Wars" (Mille Plateau) and Freezone 2: Variations On A Chill (SSR). Plus the much heralded Aphex Twin remix of Gavin Bryar's "Sinking of the Titanic." I apologize if these have been discussed and/or reviewed before. I just got on this list last week and am trying my best to contribute! Thanks. -->-Lance---
