Well, I have sat and lurked in the shadows of this list for long enough. 'Bytes' is still some of my most favourite music, albiet slightly weaker than 'spanners' and some of the earlier dog-stuffs, it's still grade-A in my book. Quirky, happy, zany, off the wall intelligent techno, and, for lack of a better term, dog-tastic. :) I can see how someone might not like them.. but... it's a stretch.. oh well. I'm blinded by the music. Well, to make this post slightly worthy of reading, I shall digress from the flaming and ask an actuall pertinent question.. any of the Black Dog nuts out there have any other smimlar or much loved albums to reccomend to me? smiliar sounds, or some obscure side project stuff..? thanks.. brandon

The recent EP on Likemind called _Likethemes_ features tracks from Tura (Andy/ED), Redcell (B12) Stasis (had a few ART releases and on their (his?) own Otherworld label) and some guy called Nuron. And its top EP too; expansive, distant, emotive. The Tura track is kind of like _Android_ from the _Plaid EP_ but less electro. You could also try some of the other Andy/Ed off-shoots like the dark and weird _Baird Remo EP_ on Ifach, as well as the Andy/Ed/Mark Broom _Pure Plastic 003_ material. The Ifach/Pure Plastic stuf is really dark and fractured but you might get a kick out of it. Speaking of Mark Broom, I didn't really like his new _Emulate EP_ on Cosmic; its kind of like the Ifach output but with more club friendly conventional beats. I thought it was pretty boring and at best, a mixing tool. In a very Black Dog stylee is the Circadian Rhythms track from the Language sampler. The track is called _Aea_ and its very tasty. The compilation of Language material called _Miscellaneous_ should be out soon. Enough of my rambling. I'm eventually goingto get flamed for repeatedly invoking His Name, but THE MAN, none other than Richard Kirk, fills that void in rare times when I become sick of Bytes. (It happens!) Not *all* Richard Kirk or even *any* (that I have heard, which is admittedly minimal and recent though I am working on that) but just Virtual State, which somehow captures that epic ambience of wherever Bytes can take you. It throws you all around and paints you lots o' landscapes. I'd even say that Kirk borrowed a little from Bytes for that album, but this is based as I said on a narrow experience of Kirk. Mind you, I am quite bored by Spanners xcept for tracks 1 & 5 so ymmv. einexile, kirkhead, always helpful and has a dancing octopus on his pc

If you haven't heard it, and if you can find it, definately check out: U.N.K.L.E. - "The Time Has Come" (Mo'Wax) This is basically the feller who runs the mo'wax label, making music with different artists. One track is remixed by Portishead, and another is a collaboration with Plaid (BDP). If memory serves me, Black Dog people are on another track as well. Anyway, it's highly reccommended! +++++++ John A. jknee@gwis2.circ.gwu.edu Rickman +++++++ On Mon, 8 May 1995, Brandon Thiele wrote:
