Hey ya'all, I just picked up my 2 Ventolin CDs as well, but to my surprise it looks to me like Warp has suffered a serious manufacturing flaw in the distribution of these: In my "Ventolin" CD case, therein contained WAP60CD_R_, NOT, WAP60CD, so it appears that I got two copies of the remixes, since both discs ("Ventolin" and "Ventolin Remixes" are stamped with WAP60CDR! I'm so pissed!! Both discs have identical color and artwork except for one thing: the one in the "Remixes" case has a blue V upside-down, and the other one has the blue V rightside-up. What the hell do I have here? Some sort of bizarre, useless-to-me collectors item, or a major, major Warp fuck-up? I am sure that the discs are identical. Even the track times are exactly the same on my CD player. Can someone comment/help? If not, then everyone should be really careful and examine their catalog #s before buying! Shit!! -Steve

Another testimony to show you always want to double-check that you've got the right discs before you get too far from the store. Reckless and Grammaphone in Chicago keep the sleeves on display and the discs behind the counter (so they don't have to keep an eye on anyone). Especially for a release like this there's a great opportunity for a mix-up when they put the discs in the cases. But the fact that the two discs -do- look different gets me to wondering. Though as far as I know they don't come wrapped from the distributor and could still have been mixed up somewhere along the line. I don't have mine with me, but maybe someone else could say what exactly their 1st disc looks like compared to the 2nd. All I remember is the labels were quite similar. But the discs were SEALED! They were never opened at all! Can anyone describe (explicitly) what each disc looks like?

I'll be able to tell you exactly what they look like when I get home in a couple of hours if nobody else has by then. If the discs were sealed, they were most likely sealed by the store, or possibly a distributor. The great majority of discs from the UK or Europe are not sealed unless & until they reach a store in the US. So someone else who bought both at the same store you did might have gotten two copies of #1. Or the one could have been put into the wrong case anywhere between the pressing plant and the store. I'd say go back to the store and they should give you the correct disc, if in fact they still have any. If not, next week when they get restock. On Tue, 4 Apr 1995, Steven T Lammers wrote:

The Warp discs I've seen are as follows. Both discs have s small afx sybol at the top and say Ventolin just over the center hole but the bottom half of the first disc is coloured sky-blue where as the remix disc has a big "V" shape in the same colour. There are pics of them in Greggy's Warp discog in the archives here on hyperreal. :: Alan M. Parry :: fluid@hyperreal.com :: <finger me for PGP key> :: http://hyperreal.com/~fluid
