Dope Quote: "...what more can I say 'Top Billin'" Wholistics: Slipping into the Warp low riding spot generally reserved for the Autechre bass boys (but certainly left vacant long enough for the five minute rule to expire) are the Jedi's from Reload fame. Two 12"'s jetting around in a stream of mid tempo acid and beaming cosmic funk. Each cut expressing a delightfully diverse drum track, alas, we're given four top buzz jams with both "the fever for the flavor AND the pringles for your mind." Aesthetics: "You can't judge a book by it's cover...but you can judge a cover." One part splashy full cover idm artwork (yet decidedly 'non designers') and one part tough old warp style 'one track per side' grooves. The vinyl is flawless and the bonus scratches are a nice touch. I'm pleased to say my needle holds tight in these sonic boom blasts. (Thank YOU!) Trainspot value bonus points: I wonder if Mark and Tom made a new friend down at the plant when they took that snapshot you see on the back of CLR406. I mean REALLY! Both the Evolution "EV007" and Warp CAT numbers are represented with the former scratched off. Information Detection and Correction (IDaC): My copy of the Remixes was mislabeled. The side reading 'Wish Mountain' (which is AA according to the sleeve) is placed on the A1 etched side. The track here begins with "Right about now.." which is in fact the Jedi Remix. The mislabel is of course replicated on the flip. Can I get a witness? Props to the science: *DJ Mercs on the 'ones' and 'two's'* No more no less. Representing skills. I'm VERY happy. Here come the jams: CAT NO: WAP59/EV007 A1 Shades of the 'Mumpbrainfalm' beats on CLR409. Here's an anticipation trance buildup that I can relate to. Rich in slickly produced phlange acid with super pop on the wood block. Did I mention the phlange yet? Big reverb acid sounds with subtle tribal tones. The track breaks into sustained synth drifts which pull out into cosmic vocal boogie down productions. A kick drum to die for. Voiceprint identification: this is the Global Communicators rocking the uptempo. Heavy props going out. This jam is crest dance music. (read: middle set, "NOW, put it two knotches higher") Well done. B1 One for the friends of the EXP punchy drumbeats. Not since 'short stories' have I heard this "Max Roach Brush" take on rhythm. It's a reload trademark sound, check it (Peschi). Quick and syncopated broken up and down with the sounds from the GC crew. (read: floaty space changes) Textbook IDM. I'm ready to haul out the Morley. (read: phased out - the Shuttle EP.) It's an IDM space funk thing. WAP 59R/EV007R Wish Mountain Breathy pulses intro and a distant melody manifests. I want to reach into the mix and grab hold of it for eternity. "Oh please oh please oh please...just give me just give me just one hit!" Flav. Hand me my swan vest, I'm going out for one. When the bass lands, you may catch yourself exclaiming "ohhhh" I just did. Angelic syncopated scratch hits with that 'sinebubble' feel. Eventually things pick up tempo and we're lead into a new wave clangy and jumpy beat which gives a big tip of the cap to the recent workings of Mr. Carl Craig. "...the subliminal seducer." Respect. the Jedi knights "right about now we gonna get to the old school beat of things you know what I'm saying!!! in the house, at this time saying what's up to the laws of funk as we proceed to do it like this!!!!!!" *bidip booooooooom* :) Five, four, three, two, one" ....props to the Miami bass sound. This is the "clear" track we we were hoping for. Vocoder funk in FULL effect. Big budget acid drips. The DJ cut and scratch 808 breakdowns come in right on time. Classically trained with the smarts to balance in a bit of melody in their ripping stylee. To often, takes on electro forget to include this. Learn it. This jam, my crew kindly informeds, set off a 'pop and lock' fest of freaky dance types when I let it roll out at an after-hours in the appreciative little city of Montreal. These kids knew the drill. (read: no half step) DJ note: this side has the booming hits, gunshots, acid blasts, "I get bizzie on em communicate with the world", " rock the house", and as mentioned, hang in for the farts and giggles.....yes!!! Final Analysis: Don't mess around. Get em both. let the bass kick, Teep on now: utroid machine missions - "space cadets on leave" expect a full review of _the black hole EP_ (5UTRUMM2) later this weekend.
