Phat shit I heard last night on "Headspace", L.A.'s only IDM show (LA, not OC): ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ New Wagon Christ LP (sounds much more interesting than "Phat Lab Nightmare") "Ventolin" (Praze-An-Beeble mix) Tusken Raiders (track from "Bantha Trax") I still don't think anybody can touch Richard and Mike when it comes to inventive beats. Both of these are massive. Autechre "Garbage" Link "Antacid" More good stuff from predictably good people. Whack shit I heard last night ----------------------------- Chameleon remix of "The Beast" on Mo' Wax I don't care how good GC is, they can't save this kind of stuff. Call me an old fart, but I just can't hang with this piano-y ersatz Jazz and some kinda sorta breakbeat-y jungle-y stuff. Give me Tusken Raiders any day. I guess I just don't see what all the fuss about Mo' Wax is all about. Old shit, always was shit and always will be shit ------------------------------------------------- Duran Duran What is this, "I was a teenage Duranie" Guilty Pleasures time? DD were the 2 Unlimited of the New Romantic set, fer chrissakes. "Oh, but the videos ..." What about 'em? Gee, let's get lots of money and piss off to Sri Lanka on a sailboat. Whee ... Hasn't anyone seen "Ashes To Ashes"? You want a good NR band? Try Scars. For that matter, if you want Real IDM(tm) from 1980/1981, go find John Foxx's "Metamatic" or the Liasons Dangeureuses LP. "Metamatic" wipes the floor with stuff like "Rockit". "Electro" indeed. Just happy to hear some current IDM within 2 months of release for once, - Greg

Jeez, what drugs was I on when I said this? The Link "Antacid" was the Wishmountain mix ... and it was double plus good super phat! Not just "good stuff" ... this is a truly collosal mix.

Speaking of double plus good super phat ... Dana played the Freaky Chakra "March of the Tangent Prones" 12" last night for me ... an excellent and unique concoction of trancey funkiness with some odd noises interspersed for good measure. Mega thumbs up. Oh, Joe spun a really great record on SOMA out of Glasgow ... any Glaswegians (or others) with the 411 on this label? Me likey. - Greg

Speaking of Link's new one on Warp, perhaps someone (our Warp discography maintainer perhaps... :) ) could answer a little question. I was told by my local record shop owner the other day that _Antacid_ was released both as a doublepack and as two separate 12"s. Is this true? And how limited was the doublepack? BTW, the music itself rocks - crunchy, deep electro-funk with delicate melodic breaks. Yum. - Matthew
