Just picked this up and all I can say for now is that it is frighteningly good. I think the title originates from a general reaction to hearing this record. Full review to come.. :: Alan M. Parry :: fluid@hyperreal.com :: <finger me for PGP key> :: http://hyperreal.com/~fluid

Hi This got quite a good review in NME as well. Can't wait for your full review. On another note, does anyone know anything about a guy called Alec Empire. I just got the Generation Star Wars CD. Haven't listened to it fully, but it sounds interesting. heh heh nice one. I bought this 4 weeks ago (lucky promo picker) and I realise I have only listened to it about 3 times - time flys and I've bought a small lifetime's worth since then. So funky, so laid back, is what I remember.

Certainly is. Lot's of Aphex/Mu-Ziq'y sounds in the tougher tracks, and a wide variety of moods, Don't know much about him except that I had heard of him before. I have one other track by him on the "Modulation & Transformation" comp. (also on Mille Plateux I think) an aside, did anyone buy Leftfields "Original". A varied 4-tracker if ever I heard one. The LP track is OK dub/tr!ph*p with a song, but the slightly faster "Original Jam" is a real killer. Also it clocks in at a really funky c125 bpm if played at 45-8 and works well with the Jedi Knights "May the funk be with you"! The other 2 tracks are a 140bpm prog/house/techno stormer, and a strictly ambient version of "original" Picked up the Neds atomic Dustbin/Black Dog/Beaumont Hannant CD for 99p - woah, strange stuff. I like Beaumont's "Just together" mix best - it's also on a 12" it appears, but that was more expensive. I don't know how to describe it really. IDM, funk and noise in the melting pot. I wasn't blown away, but I want to see as much experimental stuff like this as possible please! J ^ James Skilton aka Steady J - steady-j@firefox.co.uk
