As someone who still insists that the term "Industrial"
only belongs to records on the Industrial label,
i think it could be assumed that i have an incredible amount of respect
for Throbbing Gristle. The influence that they have had on
music is indeed far reaching. BOTH PTV and TG have had an
influence on the house and techno music scene.
BUT that is no reason to put a PTV track on a comp of North Amercian techno.
Don't know if it's been covered. But the idea that
"Acid" meant to "burn" or steal a bit from someone else
was a story that someone came up with to tell reporters
when they asked why it was called "Acid House."
At least when i listen to Acid House (including stuff from when that was said)
i see.. well hear.. actually see AND hear, the connection.
As far as spreading rumours goes...
I won't dig up new dirt, but i talked to Alaura last year,
and she changed her name from Paula P'Orridge to Alaura...
i forget her last name... for a reason:
She wants no connection with him whatsoever.
So that's a fact. (Not that she wants no connection with him,
but that she said that, i don't know what she really thinks or feels)
What this has to do with IDM?? Hrmmm...
i think it's important for Int. Dance Music to be conscious
of it's past, but just because i used to like James Brown Is Dead
and it in fact inspired me to dance at one point in time,
doesn't mean that i now can't say it's a piece of musical crap.
AND just because i still am icnredibly entranced by
songs like Hamburger Lady or Voodoo Child,
does not mean that i can't say that i think
the Psychic TV song sucks or that Moby's new album sucks.
