Kooky. I ordered some records from Record Time on Saturday and they came
in the mail today. I guess they didn't have the Fragile record I
originally ordered, so they replaced it (to my surprise) with the
brand-spankin' new Drexciya 12" on Underground Resistance. I didn't even
know they were releasing anything new on UR. I thought there would at least
be some kind of lull after the Warp single came out. Anyway, here's the
discography info for Alan:
Title: Drexciya: Aquatic Invasion
Label: Underground Resistance (UR030)
Format: 12"
Tracks: Wavejumper
The Countdown Has Begun
Sighting In The Abyss
It comes in a nice aqua blue sleeve and has a picture of "Drexciyan
Wavejumper Commandos Somewhere In The Atlantic" on one side of the label.
The other side of the label has the now familiar UR paragraph about
Drexciyan tactical seaforces going on one final mission, et al.
Oh, the music :) _Wavejumper_ is the longest track and is pretty typical
Drexciya. A disturbing (not annoying, just disturbing) little analogue
melody repeats around solid Drexciyan rhythm and a walking 303-ish
bassline while some guy mutters about "Drexciyan wavejumpers".
The B-side starts off with _The Countdown Has Begun_. Wow, the best thing
I've ever heard from them. In-your-face electro drum programming that breaks
up, down, and all around, ominous aquatic synths over the top, and an
occasional "The Countdown Has Begun" sample. Slammin'. _Sighting In
The Abyss_ is actually kind of trancey. That familiar Drexciya
bassline backs up a 4/4 kick and a melody that would fit well in
something like Blade Runner or Bubblegum Crisis. It's a bit too short, but
nice nevertheless.
