Hello, I have compiled a grid discography and I was wondering if people could help me fill in the blanks. In particular, I need information about their first album and any singles which do not appear in the discography already. I have 456, but I keep forgetting to bring it with me when I log in, so I can get the information on that album. Also bpms or track time corrections are welcome. Also, more generally, has a Deconstruction discography been done? They have some idm, but drift off into dancey soul (for lack of a better name) like K-klass and such. I wasn't sure which list to post this to, I thought ambient would be too much of a stretch. so here goes. Does anyone out there have the 4,5,6 CD by the grid? I'm listening to it now (for the first time in a while) and with headphones While i noticed before that it had been mastered from vinyl(from surface noise) I didn't realize how annoying the amount of noise there is in the beginning until I tried listening with headphones. Does anyone out there have a copy of 456 that doesn't have this excessive surface noise or know about whether this cd was remastered? [I was motivated to put it on after listening to the cd single of swamp thing, which I found for 50c and couldn't stand listening to more than 30 seconds of any of the mixes on it. I wanted to double check that 456 was the masterpiece I had remembered or whether my tastes had change--needless to say 456 is far more sophisticated than texas cowboys or swamp thing--Can anyone with "rollercoaster" tell me whether the rest of the cd is as shitty as these two singles?] -- niemitz@cats.ucsc

Urrr . . . I've just spent the last few minutes with the headphones on, wandering about on my copy of 456 and have absolutely no idea what you're on about, though I suppose it's possible that there's a crappy mastering of it floating around out there. My perfectly wonderful sounding copy is in a "Virgin Value"-stickered jewelbox with a translucent (but not crystal clear :-) tray with the photoreversed dice artwork underneath, and the matrix number on the inner ring of the CD itself is 786462 2 2 EMI SWINDON. (The jewel box has "MANUFACTURED BY EMI" pressed into the ridges along the bottom edge as well.) -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@rt66.com) ::: Use the Internet Music Wantlists to find rare records and CDs. ::: Email wantlists@rt66.com with HELP on a line by itself in the message.

Well, I'd imagine most everyone who wanted these two have found them - _ISDN_ is just about perfect, IMHO, with a range of sounds on one disc that could easily span a dozen. Thumbs up. _Spanners_ I haven't listened to enough yet, but what I've heard, I like. A lot. The Grid - heard someone spinning a track of the new record (_Evolve_?), and I was really intrigued - it was fantastic! Any thoughts/opines about it? "Evolver" was the Grid's latest full-length CD. It's pretty good, I have a tape here but unfortunately no track names (it's my friend's disc). Texas Cowboy was the first single I heard of to be taken from the CD, although IMHO it's one of the weaker tracks (at least the album version... I haven't heard the remixes). My favorite track is the one with the Banjo in it (Swamp Thing? something like that). Someone with a copy of the disc with them can prolly fill in the blanks :-) Later, -H-

I'm stuck this week in Provo Utah, and the local flannel-trend-monger station ("that was Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam, coming up: Porno for Pyros and Marylin Manson") has inexplicably picked up "Swamp Thing" by the Grid. -- Kent Williams kent@cadsi.com "Swirling a sound [in Quadrophonic Space] at an audio rate produces interesting spatial and modulative effects" -- Serge Modular Product Spec Sheet.

Be very afraid. I think our European friends have been through this already, but the local pop stations have latched on to this with the sort of ferocity usually reserved for records by long-haired-sweaty-mens (pronounce this like Blaine from "In Living Color")... It's getting hourly airplay around here, which is of course quite a lot for a track that pretty firmly falls into the "cute the first time I heard it / annoying as all hell the tenth time" category. The Grid have released their fair share of solid, competent records: this is not one of them. - d.w., grand overlord of kvetching

A couple of weeks ago I dropped by a club here, called "Scandals" filled with the flannelized, Coors-capped white-trash to hear Swamp Thing in its own "banjo-country-dance-music" set (with Rednex and some others), which had just been preceded by Euro-crap house (TRUE lyric example: "Hey, baby, sit on my face, I like the way your pussy tastes". For some reason the women were whooping it up over this one) and then immediately followed by homegrown-Canadian-guitar-rockers Tragically Hip and 54-40 (Apparently, at their concerts, people are into this neat thing called "slam-dancing" or "moshing" (wot idjits)). So don't tell me to be afraid. 8-) The horror is here, in Manitoba. But at least there is a small, but strong house/techno/idm scene. c-ya chris clarke

Yeah we have. just wait till you get "every body gonfi-gon" and "cotton eye joe" as well. UUUUUURGH!! The best option (which I follow almost all the time) is not to listen to the radio or go to mainstream clubs, or watch TV, or anything else that might expose me to this shit, but just go into record shops and buy the music I want to hear. OK so were losing the IDM thread... J ^ James Skilton aka Steady J - jamess@firefox.co.uk ^---+ What's in the basket? My Brother!
