Couldn't agee more !!! Last time I was in Miami I was travelling on a city
bus going through some raggedy neighborhood on the way to the airport. On
the way there, some kid got on with a radio and he was playing this very
repetitive, stipped down salsa beat that was similiar to some Jamaican dub
records I have. The track was mostly percussion but very sparse with only
one tone sound that came in and out of the mix. I started gettin' chills and
my vision went blurry - this s$#t was deep!!! A year later and I still can't
shake it - I felt like I was back in school. Hearing that track has inspired
me to no end. Sometimes I get the feeling
that some techno records get too caught up in "sounds" and not the
arrangement of them. Salsa, Calypso, Reggae,(etc...) artists have developed
and mastered the art of the groove - we should respect and learn from them.
