I picked up a most peculiar 7" today, allow me to describe it in detail: The front side of the slip cover has a photocopy of a female 'scientist' examining a Pyrex container of dark liquid. She is surrounded by beakers and undoubtedly in a chemistry/biology laboratory. Atop her photocopied picture are the 'credits': Research and synthesizing: Kim Karli. Assisting theoritician<sik>: Gunther Ellis. Developed at: Reactor Engineering, United States Personnel liaison and administration: William Scott Jr. Telephone: 313-571-6723. Dataphysix Engineering, United States: Copyright holder. Hinged to the front is a 'head shot' (like the kind stars tote around to autograph) of what may be the same female 'scientist'. On the flip side of the slip cover are the words "dopplereffekt' and a photocopy of a cellular phone followed by the tracklist and credits: SOUND SURFACE 1: BbICWNN PACA (*see notes below*) SOUND SURFACE 2: CELLULAR PHONE SCIENCE OFFICERS: KIM KARLI GUNTHER ELLIS The label is black and marked only by the following text: cellular MDX1 45 MDX2 45 TIME 3:04 TIME 4:19 (Inner etchings confirm the same MDX1/2 information. Nothing more.) And now into the grooves!!! MDX1 plays like a "deep sea dweller" out take. Bouncy funk fours of electro and old school synth, supplemented by perky handclaps and screecy Drexciyaesqe stabs. The final seconds nearly confirm that this is in fact DREXCIYA. A sample of our 'lab girl' proclaims in a voice which sounds sneakingly like the "cruiser control bubble one" gal (introduced again by noises I've only heard in other DREXCIYA records) in true tongue and cheek cadence: "sit-ting in the lab-ora-tory con-duc-ting ex-per-iments ana-lyzing data." MDX2 kicks in with a quick 'dial-up' and more funky electro beats roll on out. Eight o eight and I bring this bad boy home to meet my stylus. DREXCIYA waves and plink plonk supplemental chirps hit and vibrate. The track sinks slinky and slightly in and out of submersion (ala Carl Craig) and instantly I'm out of my chair and in my wreck room dancing. Fat funky stoopid fly and all that. Read it and weep. Teep BbICWNN PACA* There is an accent over the 'b' and first 'a' as well both 'N' are backwards...is this Slavic? (For obvious reasons) this word is handwritten. PS: FYI, I've called the phone number and gotten the standard "yo I aint here leave a message" deal sandwiched by some old masters at work riffs.

"Vwuis-shee rasa" is as good a first cut as I can get you on that pronunciation. If you call me I'll pronounce it for you. And my Russky is way rusty or I'd give a stab at its meaning. But I'd be willing to bet it's in one of the Slavic tongues. Those Detroit pranksters! yrz, ozy PS - Check out Florence - Relativity. I'll have a full review up in a couple of days, but Stefan is the man to beat in '95! This is _the_ shit, and mad props to sashainboston for linking me up with it! ozymandias G desiderata AKA Forrest L Norvell AKA DJ AladdinSane GCS/CW/DJ d- H++ s++:-- !g p1 !au a- w+++ v+++ C++(---) U?++++(----)$ P--- L 3 E++ N++ K++ W---(-----) M++ V-- -po+ Y++>+++ t@ 5- jx R-- G'' !tv b+++ D++ B-- e++ u*(**) h-- f++ r++ n++ x+(*)

I am the major distributor of the record you mentioned (Dopplereffekt 7"). The record is based out of Detroit and although it has obvious similarities to the Drexiya project it is not Drexiya. The phone number on the record is not going to help you - it is a representative of the label and he will not reveal the true artist. The 7" was limited to approx. 400 pieces so you are lucky to find one!! The record probably comes from the up and coming Detroit East side Electro scene where Kraftwerk comes close to being a religion and where almost all the artists work incognito. Drexiya and Detrechno are also artists from the same area. -----------Seventh City Distribution - Detroit

Aran's a regular detective when it comes to vinyl! By the way, if you're a distributor, can you drop a summary of what you carry and if you'd let Iowans order by mail??? Thanks!
