heh,
ok, so this is probably a horribly frivolous thread,
but i'm listening to the absolutely brilliant Alabama 3
album from a couple of years back ("Exile On Coldharbour
Lane") - which is, umm, south London 'sweet little country
acid house music', and the song 'U Don't Dance 2 Tekno
Anymore' references Chicago and Detroit techno pretty
reverently.
[Also check out 'Ain't Going To Goa' on the same album,
which is awfully rude about tranceheads ("there ain't
nothing worse than some fool lying on some third-world beach in spandex
psychedelic trousers smoking damn dope pretending he
getting consciousness expansion" :) ) It's right up there
with Acid Brass and the KLF on the pop-prankery side of
things.]
And then I thought, oo, more pop that raves about electronica
would be Freakpower's "No Way", which has lyrics talking about
"dropping your first one to the sound of Carl Cox". Freakpower =
Mr.Norman Cook (F**boy S**m) and Ashley Slater (Dr.Bone on Skint).
So, are there any other pop songs that reference 'electronica'?
Muhaha.
regards,
h0l.
ps - ok, more idm content - been getting hold of a bunch of the
old Dot releases, of late and LOVING them. The Daniel Ibbotson
remix on "Single Of The Week" by Friend+Dr.Kosmos is _gorgeous_.
Who's Daniel Ibbotson and what else has he done? I'm sure i've
heard of him somewhere (or maybe I'm getting confused with
Daniel Pemberton, heh, who, incidentally, used to work for cult
16-bit computer magazine Zero, according to
http://www.ntk.net
this week!)
