Just a couple of pseudo-random notes:
I was just glancing at the cover of the AI#1 compilation, on which
there are pictured three album covers. I think the farthest two are
Kraftwerk's Autobahn and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Does
anybody happen to know what the third album is?
Speaking of the Teutonic Titans of Ten To Twenty year old Techno,
I just wanted to say that they rule. Once again I've gotten into
something quite after the fact, but hey, I was what, three when
Autobahn came out?? :) "Computer World" still gives me goosebumps.
Amazing stuff.
Somebody mentioned them a while back on this whole "electro" thread,
which I've enjoyed a lot, since I've recently been thinking of
tracing techno through the eighties. Please, keep the oldies but
goodies coming! I think I've got a good start.
Also, I've been hearing IDM stuff(defined broadly) in odd places of
late. The other day while driving home, I was listening to "All
Things Considered"(daily evening radio new program here in U.S.)
and in between stories they played about 15-20 seconds of William
Orbit. I'm not sure what song, but definitely off of Strange
Cargo III. I heard Art Of Noise's "Ambient Collection" in Barnes
& Noble. I also heard an IDM tune way in the background on some
top-40 type radio station as the DJ was announcing what's coming up.
This was the most frustrating, because for just a brief moment I
though he was going to play something I like. Fat Chance. I still
haven't named the tune, but it's right there on the tip of my ear.
Maybe F.U.S.E., I don't know. Anybody with similar experiences?
Last, on the first track of Richard H. Kirk's "Virtual State"(name
escapes me here at work), can anybody understand the phrase which is
repeated quite fuzzily. There are words I can make out, but not the
whole thing. Doesn't hurt my enjoyment of the album; just curious.
