I bought the new Spicelab LP "A day on our Planet" on Harthouse this
weekend.
Like "Lost in Spice" it is just 4 tracks - each around 18 minutes.
All are fairly episodic, varying through ambient and trance sections.
Not as hard as some early Spicelab Tracks (eg "Ant Attack") but
beautifully crafted. Nice sleeve too.
Also a new Resistance D double EP with 6 tracks, but I haven't had
the chance to listen to it yet, as I went out for the day on Sunday -
and these weren't the only two I bought.
So what else did I listen to?
Cristian Vogel - We Equate MAchines with Funkiness 4 track 12".
Typical cruchy bendy techno from Cristian - 3 of these 4 tracks
really do rate as "funky" in my book. The sort of thing Dave Clarke
might play at about +4
Namlook - Caves of Cubik. Recommended. Just love the section with the
massively reverbed electro rhythm, the single piano note, and strange
little things going on in the background.
"Taking Liberties" double CD compilation, approx 100 mins in all.
Profits to anti-CJA organisations. Features the "chime" sampling
Rabbit in the Moon remix of Orbital's "Are We Here", a new 14 minute
mix of the Orb's "Blue Room", the Prodigy "Their Law", tracks from
Loop Guru, Tribal Drift, System 7, Drum Club, Shamem and "many many
more". A very varied selection with Ambient, dub, IDM, trance and
techno tracks. I had a quick listen to the "Survival 2000"
compilation in the shop as well, but found this to be far too patchy
in quality to justify a purchase
LFO "Nurture" the new version on the B-side of 12" no. 2 of "Tied Up"
LFO vs FUSE "Loop". This track is now widely available on "X-MIX-3"
which I bought as a 12-track 3-pack vinyl. Also available on CD and
Video (presumably) mixed by Richie Hawtin and John Aquaviva.
GTO. Data Trax 2. Very Varied 6 track CD EP. Plenty of hard beats in
there of course but "Dub Fire" is an excellent dub-style track and
there are some nice ambient bits on here too.
Mindscape CD cat no PRIME023. Don't know much about this except that
its excellent. German style trance and acid with a few ambient bits
thrown in. Not particularly innovative but pretty varied and very
well produced.
