Yes, definately a great release. One of the best of 99 for sure. On the "out of key" tip: On the first listen to this CD I thought that it sounded a bit out of key. That is ,the vocals and the track sounded like they were recorded each with no regard for the key of the other. At least, that was my initial reaction. After a few tracks, though, the sounds began to "just belong" that way, and the dissonance between the vocal and the music seemed appropriate. Anyone pick up on this, or am I full of shit? (yes, I am usually full of shit, but I mean on this one tuning thing). -cf --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

[snip] Some of the tracks are pretty murky in terms of harmony, you're right (track 2 especially). Low bass tones seem to lose pitch value to my ears like in this track, making traditional harmonies based on them problematic. Reminds me of the psychoacoustics thread a couple of weeks ago. On all the tracks the vocal melodies tend to meander a while before resolving. That might be making it sound less in-key. For my money the vocal lines are much more sophisticated, expressive, and soulful than typical IDM melodies. What a great CD. =) Cheers, Brad --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
