Here's the scoop on the ambient do I ran last night... We had sold out of tickets in advance, which made me think Brunel was a cooler place than I had originally thought. The place was decked out with curtains, drapes, UV lights etc and I started playing some chilled out stuff. Eventually the punters turned up and were basking in the pure ambience: GC 76:14, FFWD, Space Time Continuum, Rob Leiner etc were getting spun. However the crowd was becoming restless so I upped it a bit with some Sunkings, Aedena Cycle, Nuron, Fugue type stuff before taking it to another level... I was playing some Red Planet stuff ("Skypainter", "Star Dancer") and noticed that people were dancing so, going against my ambient instincts, I wound it up a bit more to Acid Rain III before moving onto some bugged out stuff like Drexciya ("Living On The Edge"!!) and eventually some Run DMC and Troublefunk... crazy electro beats! My last track was that GC remix that I was on about earlier, which helped everyone cool off a little. Then N4 Eric took over and hit us with some DJ Food jazzy vibes which went well with the GC track... before long N4 had everyone comatose, playing the most stunningly chilled ambient set... also it was about this time that a familiar smell began permeating the room ;) So eventually everyone left and the night ended an hour later than planned. It was a definite success, and people were keen to know when the next one would be... a lot of people wanted us to do it weekly but thats too much hassle for us! Anyway so it was a smart night and now I'm starting to think about what to do at the next one... Cheers! Brendan Nelson Kinetic Illusion
