Aphex Twin was on the cover of Request magazine also. In case you're not familiar, Request is the glossy, highly-corporate-image-semi-mainstream-alternative music magazine that is distributed through the Musicland record-store chain. Musicland is really a big chain around here, probably the equivelant of Tower in other states, but they don't really have idm. This was extremely surprising to me, because Request magazine is almost more mainstream than Rolling Stone, and here they had an issue devoted to techno. They covered the Milwaukee Drop Bass Network, Aphex Twin, Terrence Mckenna, and other "rave" culture icons. They also had an article titled "Why I Hate Techno..." The underground is now officially mainstream... It's been cooked up and served to a whole new market in our consumer-driven society. Now, your upper-middle-class kids can probably expect to buy Richard James binkies at their favorite local mega-supermarket for their first trip on E... Isn't capatalism great?

This is the month of the Aphex Twin on the cover of every magazine (if you hadn't noticed). But the one I actually shelled out for that had a pretty good article is B-Side.
