Since Dust Brothers and Underworld are talked about on this list, and nobody
seems to mind, I suppose I'll add something along those lines, namely trip-hop.
Well, well, well! What do we have HERE! A new 12" single on Zoe Magik by a
couple of netters named Darshan Jesrani and Manish Sehgal. They are going
under the guise of ESSA 3 with this debut(?) EP called 'Found'. There is no
title track -- there are three tracks called Revolve, Coalesce, and Evolve
(dub). I am only going to review Revolve (which is on one side all by itself),
because it's SO AWESOME! The other two are fairly similar...good, but not as
awesome as Revolve.

ESSA 3 - Found [ZM 008]
Zoe side : Revolve 9:30/129bpm
Magik side: Coalesce 10:35/125bpm
Evolve (dub) 7:00/129bpm

Revolve starts out with some resonant sirens...pitching up and down slowly like
a air-raid alarm. Some minimal tribal percusion comes in the background (the
track isn't exactly tribal). A good solid beat kicks in...4-on-the-floor.
The siren continues...a gated chant comes in: "Yooo-oo-oo-oo-ooo-o-oo-oo-yaa-
-aah-ahhh-aa". The hihats and claps come quickly, shortly, and the song BREAKS
into resonant strikes being filtered and delayed, panning left and right...very
cool sounding as they lead into slamming trip-hop rhythm...YES! THIS is IT!
The ever so awesome funky groove with the trippy sounds floating about, and in
this particular track, some whistles are added...
A small breaks comes, but only teasing, at it's only for 4 bars, then slams
back into the beats. A few phrases later, a long break...the trippy synth
plays on as a BOOM...BOOM-BOOM...BOOM-BOOM...BOOM-BOOM...BOOM-BOOM---BOOM---BOOM
tribal pounding creates anticipation.....soon enough, the funk comes back.
Glorious trip-hop!
