If it's the X-MIX-2 CD, I believe you might regret your decision! It's
a wonderful cross-section of house and techno with a strong representation
from Detroit (UR, +8, Definitive, Carl Craig, Rhythim is Rhythim).
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view) it's all
mixed together as a single, long, 76 minute track. I've done the next
best thing and memorized where the UR tracks start :)
(In fact, I loved the Galaxy 2 Galaxy and the other UR track Final Frontier
so much that I'm considering buying them on vinyl... and I don't even
own a turntable... Guess I'll just stare at the grooves or something...
Man, maybe we should pass the hat around and pay for a pressing of UR
stuff on CD (assuming they gave their OK, of course)...
Hmm, now that I think about it, isn't Final Frontier on the New Electronica
3 compilation?)

I'm sort of suspicious of the hype surrounding FAX "limited" releases.
Although they aren't exactly common in Canada, I've seen them in Toronto,
Vancouver and Montreal, and I'm told they can be found in Ottawa without
too much effort either. Canada isn't exactly overrun with techno-mad
citizens, so I find it hard to believe there are only 500 copies out there
in the entire world and 5-10% of them are in Canada...

I didn't think this was worth the $40 (Canadian) I paid for it. Half of it
is good FAX-y dance or ambient, half of it is twiddly filler.
I gave a quick listen to +N/Space on FAX by Atom Heart. Seemed to have
some wonderfully gurgly minimal acidic bits. Better, IMHO, than the
Ambient Otaku album.
