Hello again...what a productive afternoon i am having... Here are my thoughts on the sampler called "BARAMUNDI :An Introduction To A Cooler World" Again, The tracks... Artist Title Time 1. Jaydee Think 4 a While (7:43) 2. Man-Delo Shomyo (4:54) 3. Melt Sunsailor (4:52) 4. The Joey 2000 (4:09) Morton X-Perience 5. Karma De La Luna Genius (7:05) 6. MLF Gaia Colorlift (5:47) 7. Transformer 2 Prophecy (5:32) 8. The Rapinio Brothers Go Ahead London (6:07) _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- This is an ambient compilation from astralwerks. Is that enough yet? No?..Ok the individual tracks strike me as follows... 1. Jaydee "Think 4 a while" This track is full of strange horns and electro crickets in the very beginning, which fade into a repeating rhythmic chord pattern...breezes blow in and out of it and subtle things seem to happen underneath it all...then the crickets return...this all repeats over and over for the entire track...with the horns returning every once in a while and the chimes stopping and the crickets coming back....over and over...if you arent relaxed after this song...you need some sort of prescription... 2. Man-Delo "Shomyo" Chimes to start...bang then fade out...synths creep up behind you bringing in the beats...the beat is standard...the chimes become more atmospheric...it seems as if it was intended to be oriental...and just when you get that feeling going....the whole thing changes to this semi-paul hardcastle sounding thing with echoing voices...and just when you think the song is doomed, the chimes come back all of a sudden...and then the beats...then you feel the pattern...the beats become a little more layered and hard, bass lines come in...but it all seems random...but not a chaotic randomness...then the hardcastle stuff comes back in... it ends on a synth breeze... 3. Melt "Sunsailor" Reversed bass beats to start...ping chimes...three notes, four notes...repeated...knocking backup beats...1, 2, 1, 2....chimes...and a grumbling, buzzing synth arrives from nowhere...different chimes...'ching'...then it all turns from scary into hip-hop...almost like a bizarre remix from DMC's first album...then its back to the chimes and synths...but with more melody...the synths change and the chimes continue the hip hop style...then its just the bass beats and the chimes...the chimes build and quiet synths build to an even more intense melody...layered chimes on a synth background...it ends as strangely as it started with just chimes and reversed bass beats... 4. The Joey Morton X-Perience "2000" seashore and distorted gulls(or really huge frogs)...waves...hiding the synth intro...damn disk skip...a jungle bongo drum sound...in and out keyboards...damn disk skip!!!...but good cause its skipping over the insipid '2000' that some dude keeps saying...kraftwerkian pings and beeps...hi hats...i hate this song... 5. Karma De La Luna "Genius" Some standard synths and distortions....funky bird loops...whistle like sounds...and an ever present bass sound...boop boop...some guy talking...muttering...trancey sounds from background...echoing loops...bongos...then the hi hats and synths...like a made for tv movie score...pings...the muttering guy is saying "genius" (never would have guessed...)...more synths...a too $hort sounding bassline...pings...the muttering guy said blah gah genius twice...ducks laughing...'genius'...pings...more pings...a wobbly ping...another one...over the same synth background...the too $hort bass is still going (i keep waiting for freaky tales to start)...the evil ducks return...'genius' x 2....see last thing...again....again...this song is too simple...it would have to be the longest one.... 6. MLF Gaia "Colorlift" Some lady talking about colors...orbish voices and keys...'we surround ourselves withas much color as we can'...very neat key loops...cymbals...up and down...some odd whining sound in the background...bass kicks in...very nice...this is one of the beter tracks...suddenly all stops for a nifty synth interlude...female voice distortions...bass grumbles back in...damn i got the chills... The lady is talking about how grey these mountains are.(Istarted it over) geez....that interlude is unreal....as much color as we can...this is a very good track...anyone know anything about MLF Gaia??? 7. Transformer 2 "Prophecy" Breezy intro...piano sounds...some bouncing percussive sound in the far background...harp...not piano...tranceish sounds...kraftwerk/computer world beats...lots of woops...reverb percussion...dr who sirens in background...synths come in...ugh...its getting normal sounding...then some sizzling sounds come in...the beats are mild...1, 2,3...1, 2,3.....ends on a spiral down... 8. The Rapino Brothers "Go Ahead London" Chimes....a cheesy voice supposedly on a radio saying "Go Ahead London"...bass comes in...pretty standard...the guy keeps on talking about 'everything, everywhere'....pings and chimes and flutes and newcleus sounding music...its good, but too similar to other stuff...and too typical... So there ya go. The review. There arent many folks who would sit and listen to the whole thing and write about it on the internet...or maybe there are...who cares...im in a mood... later, jasonosaj ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- b R o t H e R A l p H a b E t ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- j a h 1 0 @ r a . m s s t a t e . e d u -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
