meat beat manifesto wow, a whole debate springs up about my favoritest ever band and i miss it cos our mail system is so wanky. Someone (tamara?) asked if the beat on Helter Skelter was original. Sure was. There's an article in Volume One about MBM which claims that Jack spent 2000 quid on studio time recording the drum samples that he used on that track and a mere 300 pounds on the actual session that produced the Helter Skelter single. Sounds about right to me. For the record (arf arf), i don't think "circles" ever came out as a real single release - there were some promos but that was about the extent of it. now as for this comment about storm the studio... <<It's good and all, but fully realized? It's one of the most unfocused, scattered albums I have. "Hey, Johnny, the masters are all burnt! What now?">> much as it pains me to disagree with Chris Hilker about anything, i have to take exception to this flagrant misrepresentation. Storm The Studio *is* one of the most perfect, coherent, wonderful records ever made. Definitely on my all time top 10 list, and has been since the day it came out. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. Even today with all the advances in IDM, it still stands up. Even better in fact. Scattered and unfocused? No way! I can't prove it in writing, obviously, but just trust me on this one. I'll see if I can log into my bolthole account and post the latest version of my MBM discography to the list. It does get kind of sloppy towards the end since my interest in the group has waned since Satyricon came out. Do check out Jack's mix of "Butterfly Wings" by Machines Of Loving Grace though. It's really good. /jon
