I saw Latour, last Friday, in Hampton, Virginia. I thought it
would be really bad but it actually turned out ok.
We got to interview him (Bill). He seemed pretty upset because
his record label (Smash) had just stopped funding his first tour. He was
also angry because his label wants him to be a techno/industrial group.
He says that most of the last two albums were remixed by his label to make
them sound harder and what you hear isn't really him. (Is that why the
first album sounds like all the instruments are sampled from Front 242?) He
did say that 'Blue' was totally untouched. In case your interested, most
of the 'blue' sounds came from a Roland JD-800. They also had a Ensonique
Mirage and a Korg M1. They were running the bass lines off of a ADAT.
The group 'Never' that opened for them goes to my school (ODU).
He was amazing. His sound is a lot like F.S.O.L. He was also sporting a
909 and a Ensonique ASR-10 as well as some other keyboards(4 all together)
which only he was playing). Too bad he doesn't have a label.
