Here is the post I sent out to most lists. I didn't want to post it here
incorrectly assuming that everyone was subscribed to their regional rave
email list. Silly me... this was in response to Laura La Gassa who posted
some info she knew to most of the lists too. Hope it sheds some light.

I just got off the phone with one of the Megatripolis DJs, Darius. He read
the rticle and says that while they are thinking about coming to the US,
the idea of hooking up with the Rainbow family was conjecture and was never
something definite due to lack of funds. I was one of the fortunate people
who actually made it to the grand reopening of Megatripolis last October in
England. Believe it when they say it's as good as it is! I'm friends with
some of the DJs and organizers and plain ole partygoers who are involved
with Megatripolis. Before I left England in November, they told me they
were coming to San Francisco in April to hook up with old time friends
Jeno, Garth and Markie who were part of the original "Tonka" replaced by
"SLACK," and now they're talking about possibly New York later this year.
Go figure.

Correct, the family are having their grand reunion in Wyoming this year.
Supposedly the Megatripolis people know it's not taking place there and
think that Wyoming is 60 miles away from the Grand Canyon. *chuckle*
However "the turtles" also have a separate but small yearly gathering.
They are a splinter group who broke off from the family because basically
they wanted alcohol included in the festivities while the majority don't
etc. This group I hear is more radical and their politics don't sound very
wholesome but this is all heresay anyway. Judge for yourself. I don't
know where they are meeting but I don't think it's in the Grand Canyon
either.

Correct again, the family doesn't appreciate amplified music of any sort.
I don't know if "the turtles" would either so don't get your hopes up. I
made this clear to my friend who didn't realize that the family are more
traditional hippies that don't embrace technology like they do.
and in reference to the article from alt.gathering.rainbow:

I don't think the Megatripolis people even know about this. And this still
doesn't agree with the dates in the Wired article which several times
states August 1-15 as the dates. It seems as this article has a bit of
disinformation. I've never even heard the term "zippie" and I've been
friends with people that fit the definition off and on since 1990.
