for a drum machine emulator, i would say the obvious choice is fruity
loops, though you can also use hammerhead (which is so easy to use a
four year old could do it, but it's a tad limited) or even audiomulch
(which has a drum machine component, but that might be a bit too heavy;
depends on the use you want to make of it.)
fruity loops allows for pretty much everything you can hope from a drum
machine... & it even allows you to sequence other samples into melodies
as well, so you can build an entire song with just that.
