The complete archives from this list are now online on techno.stanford.edu, available via ftp, gopher, or http, under the directory /pub/raves/music/idm. All 2526 posts up through the end of January are there, and I (or Mike) will put new months up on the 1st of every month (or as close to that as we can). And yes, Mike is right in his corrections of my previous post about Mosaic, et al. I was simply trying to cram a lot of stuff into two paragraphs without boring people into ignoring it, but Mike's post was more accurate (except having a SLIP connection == direct connection, in my opinion). ObIdm - A few quick and dirty reviews: 1) Renegade Soundwave (self-titled single) Not bad, a little boring, and his vocals are less than interesting, but the last 3 mixes (two of them by Leftfield) are great. Worth the import price. 2) Applied Rhythmic Technology, and Prelude Pt. 1(both on B12) less impressed than I thought I would be - the music is just not refined or effected enough to hold my interest long and transcend into godlike territory, like the Autechre album. It's fairly stripped down, but without the interesting melodi bits that make good stripped-down songs good. ART is better than Prelude 1, but both are only about half as interesting as the Philosophy of Sound and Machine compilation. 3) Divination - Ambient Dub Vol. 1 Bill Laswell's stuff sans Orb is pretty good - in the same vein as but aslightly less interesting than "Strange Cargo III". BTW, is "SC2" good too? Brian
