There's usually some people on #techno.. that's where i go when i log
in..

Try typing "telnet techno.stanford.edu 7283" from your shell. This
logs you into vrave, which I've found is much better than IRC for
chatting with DJs, musicians, etc. There are several channels within
vrave, and you can get instructions after you connect.
