gee, i didn't realize there was so much misinformation out there.
well, let's see if i can straighten any of this out. first off, the
Twitch Remix Service was started by Mike Wertheim (mw@sybase.com) with
business partners Jim Hopkins and Randall Erkelens. The Ultraviolet
Catastrophe was a basically unrelated sort of spur-of-the-moment thing
that came together one weekend after a busted rave. The participants
are Mike, myself and Jeff Taylor. our first recording was "The Trip"
which was inspired by a 4-note bassline we put together on an old
Sequential Circuits board. we remixed it into "Trip Harder" although
there's precious little of the original in there - basically just the
first drum loop. we pressed up a few dozen test pressings and gave
them to big local DJs and distributors. "Trip Harder" took off,
locally, quickly becoming one of the top rave anthem tracks of 1992.
we then released 1000 copies on "Twitch Records" (TW-EP-01) which was
basically just a bogus thing we came up with. i guess the original
plan was to actually put out original 12"s on Twitch as well as the
remix service products but nothing ever came of that plan. i suppose
this is where all the confusion comes from. oh yeah, we also did a
very small run of violet-colored vinyl for that single. big time
collectors items now, i hear.
Trip Harder was remixed by local weirdoes The Darwin Chamber into Trip
Hardcore, which appeared on Twitch vinyl issue #9.
The original version of Trip Harder also showed up on Twitch CD #6.
We then hooked up with Hardkiss Music and did three new remixes of
Trip Harder for their newly-formed label. These came out on 12" as
Hardkiss HK 002. We also produced & engineered their next two
records, Hawke and God Within, at our studio.
Yet Another Remix of Trip Harder came out on FFRR's California
Dreamin' compilation CD.
That's it.
