Having just bought Black Dog's latest release, "Temple of Transparent Balls", I can't really agree that they are "nicking all their ideas from detroit". There are tracks on this CD that bears little or no resemblance to the old Detroit school of Techno, especially in their use of rhythm, tempo and time signatures. I admit their Detroit *influence* is quite obvious on their last (?) release, "Bytes", but I think they're doing something new with whatever they have in their head of other peoples notes and chords (haven't we all?). As an example, check out their last track on "Temple..."; this is definitely not Detroit, I'd say more a mix of Moscow and Ireland. :) Anyways, how long has it been since music was revolutionized, not just evolutionized?
