A friend of mine, who had never seen them live (and had only heard Cichlisuite and Incanabula, I think) reports that the SF show was "less like music and more like a religious experience," and "like a gigantic wall of sound meticulously controlled to semi-exact ends." Can't wait for DC! - john -----Original Message----- From: Mark Fleschler [mailto:mark@bleego.com] Sent: Tuesday, April 08, 2008 12:00 AM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] authechre in SF last saturday The SF show was a monster. They jumped right into it after Rob Hall stepped down (FINALLY) after the lights went off. Massive beats, delicious bass and amazing layers upon layers of sounds and tones. Melodies and synths were bestrewn in the mix but the surprising aspect of it all was just how amazingly rhythmic and danceable the whole set was. Their use of bass lines and tone has really improved over the last 5 years. Very nuanced and quite stunning how well blended the transitions from track to track, movement to movement were. Last I saw them was at Coachella in 99 and while this set was shorter and less varied musically, it was far far superior. I am really dying to get a copy of either the SF set or at least one of the shows recorded from the board. The bass was to die for (there was one part about 15 mins in where everything was cut out except a wall of bass tone that rumbled the bowels of everyone in the room). I really hope this style is indicative of their upcoming studio output. They really are having a revival of some fashion. Best album and live show in years. Fucking ace. -Mark Anatomist wrote:
