_TAU: Hikuioto CD(1/Tau)
One look at the handmade(?) packaging (which appears to be created from a
paper mache/newspaper combination, with a silver sticker on the back) and
you know this is something out of the ordinary. But this takes the cake
for abstract. Clicks, drones, static, water drops, microphone drops,
buzzing, chirps, alien transmissions, and noise arranged to give the
sensation of a slow drive down a dirt path, not the rocket launch that so
called 'noise' artists create. The occasional spoken word (usually
japanese). And a beat every so often. Whoever this TAU character is, he
(or she or they) make music for the simulation of a deserted island.
Opens up with the popping static and ambience of 'grounded'. Clicks and
the japanese vox slowly work their way in over a desolate synth drones.
'tripel' manipulates and deconstructs the song of a small child. and
'tacet' bursts ambi-noise in and out of silence. Next we have the
xylophone taps of 'sultriness' and 'music for cicadas', which quickly
brings back the japanese vocals, before decomposing into a single phrase,
which echoes and bounces off the walls at varying speeds, creating a
haywire, almost rhythmic arrangement. Portions of the vocals gradually
work their way back into the fray. After twenty five minutes the
microphone is dropped and we return to the regularly scheduled program.
'Folded' and 'Drone' create a sort of water-y atmosphere. 'Homeless'
opens with a few words on the organizations 'benefiting' the
impoverished..."and then no money goes to anybody and they keep saying
'it's for the homeless, it's for the homeless' and you see them in them
in the streets... homeless don't get a penny of it", which introduces a
twisted guitar is surrounded by an array of squelchy taps, bleeps,
bloops, and words. 'gun' which deserves attention, if not for the music,
but just so you can hear a guy shout "do you want to see me burn my face
off?", followed by shouts and screams of 'YEAH!' And the album closes
with 'pond', consisting bees buzzing, children talking, and sounds one
might make while burning their face off.
you hear a rock hitting water, and then...
it's over.
