Here we are with the fortnightly Wall of Sound update email:
This May marks our 16th year in business and as most of you know we
are flying solo again after the departure of Confounded Books (wipes
tear). Over the next few weeks and months we will be increasing the
selection of LPs and Cds, so please come on by and dig the new
arrangement of the shop and browse for some of your favorite music!
And gracing the walls of sound is an eye popping show of hand silk
screened show posters by Hair Party. Also known as Devon Varmega, he
is a young man about town creating some super psychedelic images in
his own unique style. The posters are very colorful and densely
designed, we've been watching more than a few customers tripping out
on the display. Far out.
The posters are also for sale at very, very reasonable prices, start
your collection now!

Randy Holden / Population 2 [Progressive Line]
Classic early 70's heaviness finally available on a shiny plastic
disc. Guitargod.com is his web address. And it stands from this
record and his playing on one half of a Blue Cheer record that Randy
Holden is, well, a guitar god. He makes paintings too. Paint God.
Klimek / Music to Fall Asleep [Kompakt]
As you might guess from the title this is mellow dreamy ambient music
perfect for chilling so far out that you fall asleep. Nice.
Chromatics / Night 12'' [TMU]
If you like Glass Candy or ZE records no-wave or that amazing *So
Young but So Cold* underground French music compilation 1977-1983...
well, this is your white line. Five songs for around $7.00 ranging
from dreamy acapella to high gloss, multi-shaded eye shadow dance
tunes. Long live the synth.
Lavender Diamond / Calvary of Light EP [Lavender Diamond Partners]
This four song EP is the best thing that's happened to us all year!
Vocals, guitar, piano, strings, viola, cello. It's like they took all
these simple lines and wove a round area rug that's blue and white
concentric circles and fits the living room just perfect. Rise in the
springtime indeed! For fans of Broadcast, the Akron Family,
tambourine, love, light.
Sickoakes / Seaweed [Type]
This Swedish six-piece invites the inevitable Godspeed You Black
Emporer and Mogwai comparisons... but such is post-rock. Anyway,
*Seaweed* is fine stuff. Can I just say that they are good at playing
their instruments and smart enough to arrange things in an original
and satisfying way? What with the combination of melody and crescendo
you know. There is a song called "Missels and Mammels".. Oh! and
Andreas Tilliander mastered it.
Ekkehard Ehlers / A Life Without Fear [Staubgold]
Ehlers has offered up some fine abstracted electronic music over the
past few years. Now he has the blues. The blues he is suffering with
are not your typical 'my baby's gone' type of affair, he's dealing
with some sort of Beefheartish mutant electronic blues. Voodoo jazz
and throbbing electronics mingle while low hums rub up against
scraped strings and a buzzed-out harmonica heard through a tin-can.
This is rough-hewn experimental bluestronica mixed with graveyard
dirt. Yes. Bluestronica. Really.
Panama! / Latin, Calypso and Funk on the Isthmus 65-75 [Soundway]
Panama played host to many musicians from across the Caribbean to
South America, laying down some of the best Latin, funk and calypso
ever recorded--long forgotten and unrepresented until now! Soundway
continues its mission to expose the best in funk, Latin and Afro
music from Africa, the Caribbean and South America by introducing the
likes of the The Exciters, Victor Boa and Lord Cobra once again,
giving them the exposure and recognition they deserve.
The Tango Saloon / S/T [Ipecac]
Astor Piazzolla meets Ennio Morricone on this Tango-flavoured album
with a Spaghetti Western twist. The Tango genre is explored and
blended not only with Country but everything from jazz, Cuban,
classical chamber, improvisation to experimental electronics. Leave
it to your friends at Ipecac Recordings to throw you another curve
ball when you least expect it, leaving no genre unexplored.
