Sure yeah, bleep has got lots to commend it by virtue of the fact that it
don't have no DRM, and it's swift and straightforward to purchase once your
account is set up... only little quibble I'd have is that they don't encode
their mp3's at a higher bitrate - LAME alt-preset standard bitrate of 192
vbr is pretty good, but there are others offering less compressed audio...
Both kompakt and beatport offer tracks at an (almost) standard 320 kbps
across the board... granted you're probably not going to pick up quite as
many "IDM/electronica" artists on these sites, their marketplace being
moreso the club (whichever "house/techno" genre) sounds favoured by the
four to the floor fraternity...
Otherwise, as I've said before, a subscription with emusic is a pretty
economical means of picking up a fair bit of a mix of allsorts of
indepenently released musics, generally encoded at alt-preset-standard
LAME, and with a surprising amount of quality sounds on tap. A 90 tracks
monthly subscription costs little more than the price of a single album on
CD...

i just want to take this moment to say hooray for bleep.com.
i used to download all sorts of stuff, but i got sick of the crap
quality and queues and all that. now i just use bleep. they have nearly
everything i'm looking for, be it idm, weird ass stuff, indie,
downtempo, etc, and they've turned me on to all sorts of music i might
never have heard of.
i'm sick of the space all the vinyl and cds take up. once the conversion
to digital format is complete, i will sell it all off to make room for
more books (and when they come up with a suitable digital format for
books, bye bye hard copies!). sound quality schmound quality, 10 years
of djing has made me deaf enough not to notice. drive failure? dvd
backups. cover art and liner notes? bah, most of it sucks these days.
bleep has become my onestop shop. anyone have any other music sites
they'd care to recommend? itunes and their drm can suck it. i don't
share files, but i don't want to have to 'authorize' every damn device i
play my tracks on (i use a lot of different devices).
wow this kinda turned into a rant, didn't it? crazy.
music: i like wisp's 'nthndr'. nothing groundbreaking, but nice tunes.
'congratulations' is often repeated. i also want more from s.t.
'emotions in a box' ep is grand, and i like the 'i'll meet you there'
ep...how about a full album?
k, i'm done.
