Oh it's an old one. and yes, with this kind of distortion often called vintage warmer or tape/tube when it comes to effects... (oops. talking like on the idm-making list...)
But more contemporary stuff would fit me too, it is just that i do like some hip-hop tunes, but as i have no clue about this genre i often come up with crap when looking for some music. i am not into swimming-pool/benz commercials, nor r'n'b stupid choirs, if you see what i mean... ;-))

beats (Schooly D, "Smoke Some Kill") have some distorted beats, though
that's all relative, considering how distortion has changed over the
past 15 years. If you're talking the heavy sub-bass type stuff (Miami
Bass), then crunk may be what youre looking for.

Subject: [idm] hip-hop sub-genre?
Hey
Loving a lot the few tracks from krs one I know and some stuff like
Dalek (DHR),
I was wondering if there is a sub-genre of hip-hop involving these
kinds of
heavy or even distorted beats? something like ***industrial hip-hop***?
I know
there is something called crunk from the south of the usa, but I don't
know yet
if it is what I am looking for...
