The definition of 'lounge' is usually pretty vague, so unless you define what exactly you were hearing, it could go from exotica / 50's-60's bachelor pad music (Martin Denny, Yma Sumac, etc.), down to recent Ninja Tune, which for some reason some people call 'lounge' music as well (perhaps because of the source of many samples used...). It could also be anything from modern 'dub' like Kruder & Dorfmeister or Thievery Corporation, to Latin Jazz. It's very vague. What musical instruments were used (if you could distinguish them)? Was it mostly electronic or acoustic? Did it 'sound' old or recent? Could you compare it to any artist you already know that used similar sounds? Did you try allmusic.com's genre tree? That's usually pretty helpful when you want to start looking into a genre (and you can listen to loads of stuff, making it easy to save money by not buying tons of compilations you might end up never listening to in the long run).
