I'll second the recommendation on Rod Modell. FWIW, the Italian label Silentes (http://www.silentes.net) released a couple Rod Modell items -- one was a remix of Michael Mantra's Sonic Alter, another was a compilation of Deep Chord tracks, and the third was a teamup with Kevin Hanton called Illuminati Audio Science. Rod Modell and Michael Mantra also released Sonic Continuum on Hypnos, and the limited-edition (500 pressing) Radio Fore. The Deepchord remix of Michael Mantra's Sonic Alter also came out as a limited-edition (120 pressing) DVD-R that "provides a video gradient 90 degrees to the audio gradient that affects an atonement of the hemispheres". Mr. Modell also has two releases out on the excellent Echocord label (another great dubby techno label): Echocord 06 - the Kettle Point EP and Echocord 09 - the Sacred Geometry EP. If you're looking for Deep Chord vinyl, only 07 - 14 & 16 were released. 01 - 06 & 15 are both extremely hard-to-find CD releases. I was lucky enough to score all the Deep Chord vinyl through an Ebay auction a few months back. The CV and IMAX releases on Octal were the only two releases on that label. The label owner was selling off back copies on Ebay a couple weeks ago. If you want a good introduction to the Basic Channel label, the Scion - Arrange and Process Basic Channel Tracks (Tresor 200) is excellent. The Burial Mix reissues on Asphodel (Rhythm & Sound: versions, w/the artists) are great introductions to their work under that alias, and not too difficult to find. I also see the Rhythm & Sound, Main Street and Maurizio CDs on Ebay fairly frequently, and the BC vinyl itself has never seemed hard to find (although honestly I stopped looking after I got the clear marble reissues last year). The one thing I remember about Basic Channel was that it seemed almost impossible to find a non-warped copy of the records when they first came out. It was ridiculous. Finally, I definitely second the recommendation on the Thinner netlabel. Great, great stuff. Sorry to go on and on, but I've spent the better part of the last two years tracking down this stuff. cheers w PS Trivia moment: Listen to Excursions In Ambience - The Second Orbit. Track two, Schizophrenia, is by Thomas Fehlmann and Mauritz Von Oswald ! Additionally, Maurizio contributes an Orb remix on track four. I listened to that CD for years without making the connection. I listen to them now, and can definitely hear the protoplasmic sounds that would evolve into Basic Channel, et al. down the line. -- wallace winfrey wally@booyaka.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
