Sounds briliant man. I can't wait until next Friday for the Glasgow gig. i've never seen him live before! :) I hope he includes Tetra-Sync. Its just such a genius track. If he does I'll be one of those 'standing in the middle gawping' people. philip ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Sim" <pmxds@nottingham.ac.uk> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, November 14, 2005 1:36 PM Subject: [idm] Squarepusher in Nottingham Woo! That was pretty awesome! I've not been completely sold on the last couple of albums, but live, he makes everything else look obsolete. Mashed up beats, crazy bass, flashing lights, lots of sweaty ravers getting messy (apart from a couple of people standing stock still in the middle of the floor trying to juggle a cigarette and a beer while stroking their chins), a tumpin' system, some tunes you don't recognize, some you do (A Journey to Reedham and Come On My Selector in the encore - cool). The man himself was flipping between playing bass along with the tunes, playing bass solo (I hadn't realized before /quite/ what an awesome slapmeister he is), controlling sequencers, telling us to "fuckin' ave it", and gesticulating like the Sign Zone on fast forward. All very good. Casetteboy were fairly entertaining support too - I wouldn't buy their records, but as a one off it was pretty damn funny. And the support DJ was fairly kickin' too. The only quibbles: 1) wasn't there supposed to be a live jam, too? Did it happen in the ten minutes after we left or something? 2) Stealth really isn't designed for live shows - the man himself was hidden from view by a speaker stack for about half the audience and 3) no Do You Know Squarepusher. Right, now to recover my hearing in time for Melt Banana tonight... David -- "And then what do they do?" "Er, quadratic equations mostly, sir. Fiendishly difficult ones by all accounts."
