Hey there, Check out the latest issue of XLR8R: Quantazelle--the head of the subVariant label (er, that's um--me), is featured, along with a number of Chicago luminaries in the music & design scenes. Here's a link: http://www.subvariant.com/cms/more.php?id=45_0_2_0_M. Pretty cool. Secondly, we have a seriously amazing compilation that will be out in under a week, called SUBVARITRAX™, with tracks from people like Kero, Quench, Tim Koch and more. It's been getting downright glowing reviews so far, at Igloomag.com and Textura.org, and, like the previous release, has a whole "concept" thing going on. It's in PREORDER mode now, which means that you can get it shipped immediately with some extra neat stuff. There are also two version, just like COASTER-- a limited edition "prescription" version and a regular "over-the-counter" version. Check it out here: http://www.subvariant.com/cms/releases_comments.php?id=43_0_4_0_C So we're also throwing a party at Sonotheque to mark the occasion. So you absolutely need to come out and party with us on Tuesday October 25. Phylum Sinter is coming down from Detroit to play, Matt Mercer will do one of his awesome live techno sets, along with a secret guest *woo*. Here's the flier: http://www.subvariant.com/cms/more.php?id=42_0_2_0_M ------ SUBVARITRAX™ release party ft. Matthew Mercer, Phylum Sinter, m50 and Liz Revision Tuesday, October 25, 2005 9pm Sonotheque: 1444 W. Chicago Ave, Chicago IL 60622 PH: 312.226.7600 | EL: Blue line, Chicago Ave | BUS: #66 Chicago, $10 admission and copy of SUBVARITRAX™, or $5 general admission 21+ SUBVARITRAX™ is a new form of treatment for Sonic Mediocrity Overexposure (SMO). SUBVARITRAX™ works by providing a mix between emotionally-poignant-yet-sonically-dense Intelligent Dance Music (IDM), and scientifically formulated, provocatively glitchy minimal techno. With contributions from Quench, Ochre, Tim Koch, edIT, Kero, Matthew Mercer and more, SUBVARITRAX™ is a new type of instrumental neurostimulant proven to help people with SMO as well as being an enjoyable listen in its own right. Ask your abstract electronic music provider if SUBVARITRAX™ is right for you. Therapeutic sonic relief will be graciously provided by: Matthew Mercer Phylum Sinter (of Detroit, MI) M50 Liz Revision (Quantazelle) + Special guests MATTHEW MERCER Matthew Mercer was classically trained on the organ and piano before transitioning to a Macintosh to create original music, most recently with an "anything goes" approach to sampling. Fragments and bits of pre-existing music are combined with original and concrete sounds within a rhythmic, structured context, often as compatible with a dancefloor as it is engaging electronic listening music. He has released music through Forte Records, Ware Records and Neutonmusic, in addition to being a core member of the loose design and art collective, four09. PHYLUM SINTER Expect an uncommon blend of glitched-out beats, custom DSP fiddling, proper melodies, and memorable hooks delivered by Phylum Sinter, AKA Christopher Todd, from Detroit, MI. He has been exploring the connection between sound and imagery for the past five years and has contributed tracks to the Modsquare, Nishi, and Post Under netlabels. M50 DJ m50 has been a regular host at WNUR for over five years who has played alongside talents like Nobukazu Takemura, Stewart Walker, Apparat, String Theory, Mr. Projectile, Adam Johnson, and Common Factor. Blending his eclectic tastes for genre-blurring electronica and dance floor-oriented selections, he has performed live radio sessions at WLUW, WCKS, KCSB, and is also a member of the collectives Meiotic Promotions and illmeasures. His excellent taste and extensive personal library can be wholeheartedly relied on at any subVariant-related event. LIZ REVISION Along with running a geeky jewelry design company (Zelle), an online magazine (Modsquare), and the subVariant label, Liz McLean Knight--as Quantazelle--produces bright, melodic IDM of the best sort. Featured prominently in the October issue of XLR8R magazine, She takes a funky machine-noise groove, combines it with a pretty melody and adds a sprinkling of glitched-out textures. Think along the lines of early Autechre, Aphex Twin, or Four Tet, with some fleeting glitchy-minimal-techno moments. She has played alongside such luminaries as Machinedrum, Apparat, Kero, Cepia, and Xanopticon. Her DJ sets feature the finest in melodic-yet-structurally-challenging IDM, prominently featuring Modsquare net-releases and tracks that fit her electronic, quirkily-subversive sensibility. ----------- Much love, liz Liz McLean Knight [root@localhost]# EML: liz(a)subvariant.com AIM: quantazelle ICQ: 284786077 SM: 910 W.
