Shimone is right but only scratching the surface. Greg, much respect, but you're obviously not paying attention to what is going on in electronic dance music and IDM. Since around 1997 or so, there has been a continous electro revival that hasn't stopped. Any reputable and intelligent DJ store has an entire section of Electro (the clueless stores put it under 'breaks', but it is NOT breaks). This genre is still producing plenty of solid work. Recommended: Satamile label out of NYC. Bunker & Clone from Holland. Andrea Parker's Touchin' Bass label from UK. Probably 1/3 of all the vinyl I buy are electro releases, so i know a lot of the names: Andrea Parker Bytecon Anthony Rother Silicon Scally Manasyt Adult. Drexciya DJ Godfather Japanese Telecom Decal Aux 88 Octagon Man Exzakt Goudron Perspects Andrea Parker Jackyl & Hyde Mr. Velcro Fastener Blotnik Brothers Solvent Lowfish Legowelt Steril Orgue Electronique Le Syndicat Electronique & tons more. I have seen a number of these artists play live!! A *lot* of IDM is influenced by electro, not just Autechre. Also, the spirit of electro has crossed over to the point where there is electro-punk, electro-house, electroclash & so on. Look at Peaches, Tiga, Miss Kittin & others. There are several websites on the net that cover electro in detail. Respect to Hashim, Jonzun, Newcleus & Bambataa etc, but if you are looking for electro from the 80s that is thinly produced, overly repetitive, and has a dude rappin' over it, that's not where a lot of electro is at in 2005, and why should it be, since the equipment is a lot better. look at bootyhouse/ghettotech which is a cousin of electro for that older school flavor though. Godfather, Assault, Deeon & many others do that. Egyptian Lover is still going strong from what I hear, too! Hope this helps.
