Hey all, last minute reminder for a london show tomorrow eve.. Highpoint Lowlife presents: Not Clickable, a new monthly indie-electronic-noise evening, last wednesday of every month. 28th September Leafcutter John [ Planet Mu ] Hands On Heads [ Upset The Rhythm ] DJ Scotch Egg [ Adaadat, Wrong Music ] Bovaflux [ Highpoint Lowlife ] The Legion, 348 Old Street, just across the street from Smallfish records. Starts form about 7pm, 5 pounds entrance. Leafcutter John is one of the most outrageous and unpredictable live performers, easily moving from abstract sound art controlled by magnetic pickups in a sports bra, to sombre almost Will Oldham like acoustic fingerpicking and crooning. I have no idea what to expect from tomorrows performance, but i have no doubt it will be amazing! Hands On Heads are key members of the Upset The Rhythm collective, who over the past year and a half, have been hosting the freakiest, most interesting and experimental live shows around, from Jandek, Why? Afrirampo and loads more. Hands On Heads are a four piece short sharp noise-pop band. Think along the lines of The Yummy Fur, or Boredoms, and you're in the right precinct. DJ Scotch Egg urm, just watch this,it explains everything!!: http://www.nothing-to-see-here.com/scotchegg/ Bovaflux Our latest release from the label is the full length album by Bovaflux, and this will be our unofficial release party for it, lots of copies on sale. From minimal clicks and cuts, through to mutant two-step noise, always with an exceptionally strong sense of melody. The Wire had this to say about his latest record: "Bovaflux is Eddie Symons; by day a hardcore coder swamped with the minutiae of video game construction, by night a musician conjuring dreamlike space in which to take refuge. This, his debut album, is littered with melodic felicities and subtly euphoric sweeps of sound - indeed, at times it teeters on the brink of sentimentality, saved only by some crisp percussion programming and a healthy sense of restraint. With its downtempo twinkles and soft keyboard motifs, the title track is vaguley reminscent of mid-80's Depeche Mode - but instead of Dave Gahan's angsty yelp, we find only refined, dubby basslines and smoothly ascending chords. A track like "Happy Numbers" introduces some welcome distortion to Bovaflux's warmly amniotic soundworld, scratchy little clicks and flutters that lurk at the bottom of the mix, braced, like quinine, against the tonic water sweetness of the music rich, sedate progress. And "A Nice Place to End" is just that, a guileless, warmhearted ad gently soporific excursion whose naive but generous qualities encapsulate those of the record as a whole." cheers! thorsten :------------------------------:----------------------------------------: : Highpoint Lowlife Records -- indie/electronic noise since 01 ---: : http://www.highpointlowlife.com/ -------------------------------------: :------------------------------: --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
