IDM is just another brand name. So that even nerds can be hip, and a market source.
A bit like new shoes.

Why exactly do you like IDM?
Personally, I am attracted to the creativity of IDM musicians and the music
that results from it. They tend to try new things and innovate in ways
traditional musicians can't. In a sense, the studio has become their
instrument of choice. IDM tends to have a sound that evokes emotions and
mood unlike other forms of music. Coupled with some headphones and a
relaxing night, IDM just kind of takes me places. You never know what to
expect.
