[Highpoint Lowlife news April 2005]
Ouch, starting the month with a hangover, and it's looking like a
lot more drinking for tonite, as it's Mat/Fisk Industries birthday
today as well! Happy birthday to ya, lad! For any Londoners, you
will find us out at the Delta9 show tonite with Bitstream, Andrea
Parker and ADJ. More details at
http://www.delta-9.net/community/listings_d9.php
Come out and buy him a drink!
It looks like a busy month ahead, with lots of great shows.
We'll be heading up to Glasgow on the 15th to see Autechre live at
the Glasgow School Of Art, and then the following weekend is going
to be All Tomorrows Parties, which actually I think the line-up sucks,
but I'm sure it'll still be a lot of fun!
As always, we've got a whole load of new music for you.
LIKE A STUNTMAN :::
Like A Stuntman's debut full length release "Fresh Air Is Not The
Worst Thing In Town" is pressed and ready to go. Official release date
is May, but as always you can buy now, pre-release from our online
mailorder at posteverything.com..

and Smallfish records. Should be available in Norman records
within the week.
Smallfish say:
"Following the excellent 7" 'Reduce', Like A Stuntman have
really come up with the goods here. An eleven track album
that showcases both Highpoint Lowlife's dedication to varied
and interesting music, and the band's ability to compose and
perform very likeable guitar and electronica tracks. For the
most part this has a nicely lo-fi feel with folky guitars
and clattering percussion plus a vocal style that puts it
firmly in the americana camp. Electronic shenanigans, however,
give it yet another dimension and add some fun and flava to
the album overall. On the strength of this i reckon they could
get very popular very soon. Get in there early, thats my
advice. recommended."
The limited run of 300 7"s by the band, entitled "Reduce" has
been receiving some great attention..
"sounds like it's been made by breaths and soft touches rather than
hard strokes and strident thought, on a microphone with loose wire
buzz and compliant keyboard. Like A Stuntman, you've got it just right"
Playlouder.com
"Germanys latest attempt to forget about Hasselhoff sees pointed
Pavement guitars and awkward electronics showered with disjointed
melodies and spurts of crazed pop. You can smell the dirt of Frankfurt
and feel the uncomfortable touch of an over enthusiastic Aunt.
Brilliant."
The Fly magazine
"Brief but potent nevertheless, Reduce bodes well for the band's
upcoming full-length. "

MARCIA BLAINE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS :::
The Marcia Blaine School For Girls compiled "Some Paths Lead Back Again"
has been going really strongly, and should now be widely available
worldwide. Its been in the KUSF charts for the past two weeks running,
holding its own against the likes of Boom Bip, Amon Tobin, M83 and Bola.
"Some Paths Lead Back Again is an extremely pertinent and outrageously
enjoyable collection of electronic music. 4.7/5"
The Milk Factory
"Glitch freak dandy stylings from Scotlan'd best laptop splicers.
Featuring two cds of minimalist compositions from Izu, Feld, Daigoro,
Accural and other assorted bit crushers"
Dazed And Confused
"Fittingly, the album peak comes from The Marcia Blaine School itself
with "Routed To The Spot", an epic work of billowing ambience. From
an originating core of rippling loops that recalls Steve Reich's
tape pieces (Come Out, It's Gonna Rain), the piece subtly mutates
over its 12-minute span in almost imperceptible transitions; willowy
harpsichord shimmer and surging washes gradually surface, with wave
upon cresting wave rendering it even more dreamily hypnotic. Some
Paths Lead Back Again is a solid two-disc sampling of Scotland's
burgeoning electronic scene"

WEB RELEASES :::
A couple of new freebie releases have been added to the site this
month also. We added a mini teaser EP from Fisk Industries, with
three delightfully short and tasty pieces to leave you wanting more,
and we have re-released two Eps from our now defunct weblabel,
8bitrecs.com .
The Marcia Blaine School For Girls
Some Paths Lead Back Again (companion EP)
Three tracks, one from MBSFG, one from Accrual and one from Production
Unit, originally released in 2003, and which actually led on to the
compilation. It seemed fitting to re-release them now as a companion
piece, and they slot in perfectly with the compilation.
Tigrics - Ebek 1/30 .
two early tracks from Hungary's Tigrics, a pre-cursor to his full
length release, slated for sometime towards the end of 2005.
All available from www.highpointlowlife.com/downloads.shtml or
from the front page.
GIGS :::
Tomorrow, the 2nd of April, if you live in Scotland, you'll be lucky
enough to catch The Village Orchestra playing out at Miso alongside
aMute (belgium - intr-version), and Age Of Wire And String.

Just announced, that Si-cut.db will be performing at this years

OTHER STUFF:::
Within the month, our catalog should be available on Bleep.com.
There are constant additions to the iTunes store also, and in
fact, our digital distributor, IODA, has been doing a grand job,
and you should be able to find our titles available in most mp3
download stores.
Oh yeah, and if you are bored on the internet (as I've been at the day job!)
I have updated our link page with a lot of my favorite webcomics..
Some of the best ones are:
http://www.little-gamers.com/ wow! Hold on a second, I just
doublechecked the link, and unless its some kind of joke, the
site has been shut down by the MPAA. Shit.
And this one is genius!!

If you are still reading - this is my li'l ramble -
Highpoint Lowlife Comics is something I have been thinking
about a lot lately. I would love to expand into doing a comic
company. If any of you draw or write anything that you think
would be worth publishing, drop me a line!
Ok, have a good month!
