New Patrick Wolf album "Wind in the Wires," on Tomlab is pretty good.
I wouldn't necessarily say that it's IDM, but some of the tracks have
some nice electronic beatiness behind them that might qualify as
worthy of the world's most disagreed-upon genre tag.
Teignmouth, in particular, is one of the best tracks I've heard this
year. So very nice. The vocals in some of the other tracks can get to
be a little heavy handed, but for the most part, this is a pretty good
album.
It's strange that so many of these German labels (Morr, City Centre,
Tomlab) have moved away from more strictly electronic stuff to more
indie/laptop pop stuff. It's okay sometimes, but on the whole usually
too lite for me. Styrofoam, for instance. "Nothing's Lost" is okay,
but "The Point Misser" is still his best effort in my opinion.
I'm sure I'm generalizing too much. I guess the same could be said for
plenty of other labels. Hell, Warp has completely forgotten what they
used to be about, it seems. I mean, that's cool and all, but... oh
well.
Anyway, I just figured I'd try to make some casual conversation. Feel
free to jump right in. Or ignore me completely.
