Very true. For me, the techno influence on a lot of that early stuff is a big part of what makes it special - abstract but emotive, clever but still rooted in dance rhythms, mmmm... On the other hand, you kind of have to be careful with 'X is basically just a Y ripoff' arguments, or you end up with the conclusion that stone age people banging rocks together pretty much invented glitchcore.
