When I first encountered the "IDM" genre tag, I deliberately avoided it.
I didn't want to know anything about it, I didn't want to listen to it,
I didn't want people to say it.
Because it's my initials. Ian D. Monroe. I thought to myself, "Self,
what kind of fool starts listening to a genre of music that's named
after oneself?" And that was the end of that.
Some months later, I actually saw a list of artists that were considered
"IDM" (though, at the time, I lumped them into "electronica") like
Squarepusher, AFX, Plaid, etc. It turned out that I was ALREADY
listening to those artists all the time.
So then, it became a happy accident. The genre of stuff that I really
liked also happens to share my initials.
Then I joined this list. That was forever ago.
