Yep, it's an easy trap to fall in, since it's easier to accept your
setup is causing the tunes to suck, instead of accepting that you
don't have the necessary skills yet to make a decent tune.
Whenever you see a " What is <insert bigname producer here> using?"
there's ussually someone on the other side thinking that if he can get
the same gear as producer X, he'll be able to make his tracks sound
just as phat'n'nasty.
The thruth is however that the big names can make rocking tunes out of
any decent tool, cause it's the knowledge that matters, not the tool.
Always ungrading to the latest and finest is also one of those traps
I've fallen into, which in the end makes you spend more time trying
out and installing new tools , than actually writing music... which
doesn't help to make you write better tunes, cause that just takes a
lot of practice. I think it's Venetians Snares who's still using some
oldksool tracker software like OctaMed for instance.
